Falcon Market

Doha, Qatar 2011

The Falcon Market in downtown Doha was rebuilt in 2006 along the lines of a traditional Arabian market. Here, the light was literally integrated into the architecture. While the niches of the clay-plaster walls are illuminated in a warm light, the crown of the building shines in cool blue. The warm and architecturally integrated light indirectly illuminates the numerous aisles of the market building. At the same time, the color and light represents the heavens and the earth — the sand, desert and firmament. The light of the architecture provides the light for the visitors; additional external path lighting was not required any more. At night, the lighting concept visually links the nearby projects Emiri Diwan, Grand Mosque, Clock Tower, Horse Stable and Al Koot Fort in the centre of Doha into a unique ensemble.
