Kali und Salz AG

Kassel, Germany 2002

The headquarters of K+S AG, built in 2001, is composed of a long building block that curves outwards at one end. The architecturally dominant element is the extensive glass façade with closed, identically sized balustrade areas. For his light installation, Thomas Emde illuminated every second area. On the one side, this stresses the flow of the glass façade spanning the building; on the other, the tranquil symmetry of the external structure is undermined by the continually changing color of the rhythmically placed fields of light.
